Top Gear Vietnam Special

One of the best things I've seen on TV, though make sure you have an hour and 15 minutes to kill. Also, I couldn't find a good embed, so here's a link.

For your listening pleasure

This is a funny death metal version of some mario music:

This is the music I wrote for Nixa's band this year in case you haven't heard it yet:

There's an app for ... air?

Wow. Kelly, maybe you can play off of this for some interactive feature in your iPhone games!

Blow Real Air With Your iPhone

Interesting Animal Collective video

Well, I'm not sure who besides dad thinks my music isn't weird, so I'm mostly posting this for him.

Confirmed: R2-D2 Discovered in Star Trek

At last, here's the droid we were all looking for. In this frame you can clearly see R2-D2's cameo in JJ Abrams' Star Trek. This time there's absolutely no doubt about it: It's been confirmed by ILM.

Can you see him floating there, on the left, right below the huge arrow that I also missed when I saw the movie? That's obviously him, a fact that has been confirmed to me by one of the movie's sequence supervisors at Industrial Light & Magic—the same guy who said this previous sighting was just the shuttle.

Rock Band Voice Engine Tricked By Something Called a "Musical Instrument"

On one hand, what's happening here is very simple: Rock Band's singing feature just senses pitch, not words, so it's perfectly reasonable that a flute—or indeed almost any instrument—could do the trick. On the other? This is art.

The musical cosmos have been tilted out of balance for quite a while now, violently thrown askew sometime between when the first fake guitar rolled off an assembly line in China and the first time a child recognized the Beatles on the radio as "that song from my Xbox!"

Today, as we watch a young lady with a flute totally pass for a Very Serious Yelling Man with a facial tattoo, it feels like, in some small way, order has been restored.

Well, actually this post is just for me and Riley

Hiro made a Chrono Trigger joke!

I like hating on Heroes as much as everyone else nowadays, but this deserved some credit.

I Can Haz for Christmas ?

For about $20, this tiny HoverDrone will hover and flash its little lights. And then the dog will eat it.

Sorry, it's inevitable, as proven in the ThinkGeek demo video above.

ThinkGeek is billing this as the smallest hovering device they've ever sold, so there's that too.

Requires a handful of AA's and the controller has the ability to control two drones at once.

Besides, I need a new way to torture the cat.

John Gibbo needs help with his thesis

If you're not busy, he needs people to sample a couple different social sites and compare to his in a survey. One is facebook, which most of us are already familiar with. Email me if you have any questions, but here are John's instructions:

Hello Everyone,

I'm in need of people to try out three different web site and evaluate their usefulness. The dead line for completion is October 31stso I'm in need of as much help as I can get this week. If you are already familiar with facebook, then take just an hour to help me out and complete these user evaluations. The instructions are below:

------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello User,

Thank you participating in this user survey of the following web applications:
Facebook
Clip Marks
Friend Lens

To participate in this survey you must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. If not already installed, install Firefox 3.0 or greater. (Internet Explorer and Chrome will not benefit our survey. We also request that all participants use the same web browser in the hopes to removing interface inconsistencies)
2. Create an account at each site
3. If any of the web applications require a firefox plug-in please follow the instructions on the respective site in order to do so. (Note: Installation of Facebook "Apps" are not required for this survey)

The survey that you will take can be found at http://friendlens.no-ip.org (it is a large link in the top menu after login)

Part of the survey is to evaluate the ease and intuitiveness of using a particular site, so you will not be given instructions here. In other words, it up the each web application to teach you how to use it. Feel free to look over the survey before you begin to ensure that you can confidently reply to all questions.

Important notes:
1. If any web site is unreachable or down, please notify the survey coordinator, John Gibbons, immediately

2. Remember to be as unbiased in your responses as possible. Do not allow prior familiarity with any of the web applications or knowledge of the origins of a web application to influence your responses.

3. This is an open survey. You can forward this email to anyone you wish as long as they will follow all of the instructions.

4. All survey submissions are anonymous. You do not have to submit or post personal information if you do not want to.

5. There is no time limit on how long you can use a given web application, but please spend at least 30 minutes with each before moving onto the survey.
