Silly Musiks #1

Hey folks. As most of you know, I likes the musics. To keep my composition skills sharp, I sometimes like to write silly little dittys when I have free time. Since I'm writing a pretty serious marching band show about Pearl Harbor (acually I just got done with it yesterday! I'll post the musics soon.)it's really nice to clear my pallet and lighten the mood sometimes. So, every once and a while, I'll be posting my silly little dittys for you to enjoy. They aren't intended to be masterpeices. It's just a way to incorporate something I've learned, write about something I did or saw, or just be funny and hurt your ears.

The Sooner State

Greetings all. Dee Dee and I went on a trip this past weekend to Oklahoma City, to see Dee Dee's best friend from high school, Tiffani, and her boyfriend, James. The journey was long and there were several torrential storms along the way (including frozen cloud droppings that chipped our window), but it was nice to get away. We did many things there – introduced Tiff and James to the Wii, ate fondue, meatsies, chipsies, potions, and drank countless Thin Mint Cookie shots. Yum.

Tiff and James are both ambitious meteorology grad students at Oklahoma University. James spends a lot of his time at the National Weather Center, where all weather prediction and research is done for the entire country. Being inside the building reminded me of being in the Department of Mysteries. Our friends gave us a tour of many secret places, neat magical gizmos, and the Hall of Weather Prophesies. And we saw “Dorothy” from the movie Twister!

We also went to the site of the Oklahoma City bombing. They’ve built a memorial where the federal building used to be and a reflective pond where the street once was behind the building. It was a very sobering experience to see it in person. Our friends also pointed out the building’s ruins, as well as cracks in the buildings nearby.

We also toured a little bit of Bricktown in downtown OK City, which is an area of brick warehouses along a canal that has been transformed into a hot spot for restaurants and culture. Even though it was sweltering – in the upper 90s! – it was a blast. So that’s our trip!

O.K. Kidz, Here's Your First Clue

Alli is a lazy bum

This has been a very strange summer for me so far! All I'm doing is working at the library part time. No international travel, summer school, or getting married. Weird! So I've been sleeping in a lot, spending time at the pool (not enough to acquire a tan), reading, trying to lose the weight I've gained since getting married, and making mosaics.

I hadn't made any mosaics for a year and a half because I got really mad at the grout on the last mosaics I made. I think I ended up throwing the last one away. But alas, I read up on different ways of grouting mosaics (basically ignoring the directions on the grout container) and am using a different kind of grout so I think all will be well. So far I've just been "crazy laying" mosaics with pieces that are already broken into random pieces - kind of like a puzzle. I really want to start cutting pieces into the shapes that I want them to be in - so I got a new tile-cutting bit for my dremmel the other day. We'll see if it works! I looked for some cool tile but I had trouble finding what I wanted. Oh well, I'll find something. I got some cool stuff to cover with mosaics at the Goodwill. Hoorah recycling!

I checked out some library books (surprise!) about mosaics for some inspiration. A lot of the stuff is just corny arts-and-crafts-ish projects, but the last book I checked out has actual art in it. My hero is Gaudi - I really wanted to see his mosaics in Barcelona. They are amazing!

Speaking of the library, it's time for "Confessions of an Evil Children's Librarian." I'm really sick of Summer at the library. Every day about a million kids come in and ransack the entire building. No, we don't have any more Pokemon books! We also have no Hannah Montana anything. Then there's the Summer Reading Club. Every time a kid comes in for a prize, I have to act really excited and proud of the kid and be nice and friendly and librarian-ish. And I've had to explain the game board about a million times - each time faking said excitedness/friendliness. What I really want to do is tell the kid, "Good for you. We're all out of books. Go away." But alas, a few weeks more and I no longer have to feign excitement.

I have been working on getting ready for the school year off and on. Syllabus writing is a lot more philosophical than I thought. School gave me a key to the classroom I'll be using the first half of the year. I guess the teacher that was there before me let her class run wild - on one of the bookshelves someone wrote in huge letters, "WEED IS MY FRIEND." I'm hoping when I come back in August it won't say that anymore. The second half I will be teaching off of a cart in different rooms. I thought that I would be on a cart the entire year, so I am really excited about having a room the first half of the year! Plus they gave me a laptop that I get to use while I work there. Hoorah!

Comin Home fer August

So, ol Kelroy plans to spend August in Missouri. I gotta get some work done while I'm there though, so I'll need a PC. This means either investing in a decent laptop, which is espensivo, or shipping my dear computer, which is escaro. So, if anyone around that time feels like picking up me and my friends, Mr. Computer and Mrs. The-rest-of-my-crap, they could use it as an excuse to go on an exotic Seattle vacation with free lodging (you guys like couches and sleeping bags, right?). I would also take the money I would have spent on a plane ticket and put it in your pocket instead. Plus, you'd get to spend quality roadtrip time with me, sitting in the back seat screaming and throwing candy and then demanding my candy back. YAY.

Craigs List

I've known Craig's list has been around for a while, and have looked at it occasionally, but in the last couple of days, I've become obsessed. Have any of you ever looked at the "free" or "barter" stuff? Ads in Free with pictures of toilets saying "please come get this off my porch" or in Barter "This non-working big screen TV is just taking up space, will trade for anything" I can't get enough of it.
Anyway, those of you who dropped off garage sale items are welcome to put ads in Craigs list and have them come by here to do their business--at least Monday thru Wednesday as other days I will probably not be at home too much. You can use my address and have people call me for pick up time, but if you can construct the ads with photos, that would be optimal. Actually, since your stuff is here, I can take the photo and send to you so you can post the ad. This offer is open until August 3rd. It's free but open to barter.

Seattle's Demon Magic

So, a couple of friends visited me last week, so we went to the Pike Place market for a ghost tour (By the way, I popped into a magic shop and referenced the only Magicsmith I know to the guy that runs the shop. Business?).

Anyway, it turns out Seattle has a crazy history. It used by be a crime haven, for brothels, gambling houses, and underground crime. The mayor even built the world's largest brothel with taxpayer money (where the Key Arena is now). Insane! Also, there's Native Americans and Chinese people buried everywhere (under buildings and parking lots even), because people didn't want to move the graves. In fact, there's a highway bridge thing that me and dad have taken that they say won't survive an earthquake. So, they want to move it underground, but they're worried they'll find Indian graves and then there'll be a huge excavation in the middle of downtown Seattle. But yeah, seems time to call the Ghostbusters.

One Person Can Make a Difference

This was a video I saw awhile back. Seeing what just a few people have managed really is amazing. Even in the darkest times, when we cannot see it, there is always hope, and a reason to keep going.

This is Madness

Looks as though the Persion Godking's elite fighting force "The Immortals" have given up on Sparta and now have formed a Winter Drumline. They are so powerful that they conquered First Place in national competition.

Other madness: Since we have cut our cable and now have the use of a magical orbiting orb for our viewing pleasure, I've come across some very interesting MADNESS. One is called "The Farce of the Penguins". With Samual L. Jackson as the narrator and pinguin talk by Lewis Black, Tracy Morgan, Bob Saggot, and Richard Godfrey, just to name a few. If you can handle a LOT of foul language and a little animal sex, this movie is pretty hilarious. 4 stars, just for madness.

Allow me to tell you a story:

I will tell you of the recent quest of Sir JacBur; the ingenious and timid burgler, in which he will work to restore his glorious computer to it's former luster.

It was known to all throughout the land, except to Jacobur, that his computer was a hungry vampire type entity. Thus, the common folk managed to keep their prized computers from being anywhere near Jacobur's home. In time, unchecked, his computer could consume all other computers within its vicinity, taking the essence of their computerness, and making it its own.

Jacobur had been seeking far and wide for pieces and information on how to finally complete his creation. To his horror, when he came home one fateful evening, he found that the life force of all computerness had been devoured by his much prized Conrad(His computer). Two other computers lay as broken husks upon the desktop their tubes ripped and thrown around the room.

Over charged from such a feeding, Conrad entered a state of hybernation from which Jacobur could not wake him. Calling upon the assistance of a great wizeman known only as J- he was given the task of going forth and recovering three artifacts to place inside Conrad's belly. If he could do this, balance would be restored, and Conrad would become a force for good in the world.

Will Jacobur be able to recover the artifacts in time? Will Conrad at long last become a force for good? Or, will Jacobur fail, and unleash the most unholiest of vampire like entities on an unsuspecting world? If he does, can doom really be far behind?

All Your Karts Are Belong to Us

Alli can let you know just how hectic it can get around here, and how frustrating my schedule can be. It all begins right after X-Mas and it doesn't end until the end of May. With the start of the year, work is like a tidal wave. Truthfully, there were weekends I didn't know where I was or what day it was because of a lack of sleep.

Now, with a lull in work hours for a couple weeks, I have been enjoying a little RnR. Swimming, movies, Mario Kart. Alli and I have a rivalry going to see who can get the fastest time in Mario Kart: Mushroom Gorge. As hard as I work at it though, she plays through it a few times and somehow manages to destroy my records. Wha wha wha... I have also been working pretty hard to keep up with B'wiley on some of the courses, and that isn't easy. For anyone who is interest(those with the game) you should try the tournaments that they have. I didn't do well on the first one, but who knows, someday you could be a world champion. I am exactly 4.5 seconds away from the top in this week's tournament. Wahoo!!! I think a tournament of our own would be good...how about we see who is fastest on the N64 Bower's Castle?

For those of you without Mario Kart, I suggest going around the yard in a cardboard box and the plastic wii wheel in your hand. I do it all the time!! It is fun, good exercise, and the people in white coats don't seem to mind too much. : /

We did manage to find the time to go see Indiana Jones, too!! It was a good start to what I hope will be a new trilogy. At some point Harrison Ford will be too old you say? Nah, they just freeze him in Carbonite between movies! (That is a Star Wars reference, look it up!)

Okay, back to 'pondering the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.' (Its 42, okay, look that one up too.)
