Marching Band Shows

For those of you who like to see Riley's marching band perform, there are two local opportunities this year:

Saturday, Oct. 1, at Parkview High School

Saturday, Oct. 15, at Missouri State University

We don't have performance times yet but you can ask either of us as the dates get closer and we can let you know.

This year's show is called "Juxtapose" and it combines the music of Beethoven and Motley Crue. Very interesting!

Aunt Jeannine's Birthday Present . . .

Announcing the arrival of Benjamen James Mathys, the newest addition to the Jacobs Family. Born at about 10:30pm on September 7, 2011 he shares a birthday with his aunt. He weighed in at 8 lbs even and is 21 inches long. He has LOTS of strawberry blonde hair (in fact he may have been born needing a haircut!!!) and blue eyes. His hair does not show up well in the picture, but it is there. Congrats to Suzanne & Dusten!!!

Happy early first birthday to Mason! We were driving to the hospital a year ago this very moment. Mykl asked off work for Mason's birthday, but they gave him today off instead - SO, we pretended today was Mason's birthday.

We had a little mini-celebration with just the three of us (practice for Saturday's bigger fiesta), including waffles with strawberries / peanut butter, banana, and honey for dinner; brownies with milk (he was more excited about the milk) for dessert; took a ride around the neighborhood in his new wheels (see photos); took a "swim" in his baby pool, which we set up inside the kitchen; played with his new ball; and walked around the house in his birthday suit for awhile (Mykl and I didn't participate).  Tomorrow we are going to go visit Two-Mom and Overlord's house!

Bunnies Need a Home

Hey, so it turns out my new landlord doesn't want me to have bunnies. I thought it would be okay, since he ignores a lot of other pets, but he seems to hate rabbits for some reason. So sadly, Momo and Gato need a new home. Any takers?

Charlie Update

Hello everyone, I thought I would let you all know what is going on in my world (since I know everyone has been wondering). I loved teaching 4th grade this year. I had a great group of kids, so they decided to try a little looping; therefore, I will teach them all again in 5th grade next year! I am very excited because I will teach math, science and religion. Since this years fifth grade teacher found another job, the principal thought that since I will be taking 6 weeks off in September, it would be best since I already know this group of students. I am a bit nervous about this whole having a baby and going back to work thing, but kowing that I am returning to a familiar group of students makes me a bit less stressed.

Baby Update!!

Baby Mathys is doing well. He is growing and moving around more and more. I am due September 12, but am hoping he is born on the 10th (9-10-11). Dusten and I are still struggling to pick out a name. Hopefully we can come to a decision before he is born, but it is not looking good. Janice's babies are doing good as well. They are thinking about inducing her at 37 weeks (around June 15th). This would give the twins almost the same birthday as Abbey. Abbey says no!

My new hockey team is off to a 1 and 1 start. We lost the first game 6-0, then we won last night 6-0. I'm a defense men, I have no goals so far, but am a plus 2 for a season.

Bookskoetter Blog and other news!

I am currently looking for library jobs, and decided to create a book blog to make myself look good (and because I've been wanting to make one for awhile anyways!).  It's pretty basic at this point because I haven't chosen what direction I want it to go.  If I get a school library position, I'll be adding sections for Professional Development presentations, teacher resources, and probably Book Club stuff.  If I get a job at a public library, I will be adding programming sections, etc...  Also,  I don't know what age group I'll be working with, so I've tried to put a little of everything up.  Let me know if you have any ideas for how to make it better! I have an interview Monday, but it's to a job that I probably won't get (because I haven't finished my Master's yet).  If I don't get that job, there will probably be some Middle School or Elementary library positions coming up, and the public library will be posting a Young Adult librarian position in the next two weeks.

In other news, I bought a kayak! It won't come in for a few weeks, but I am super excited about it!  It's a green Perception Tribute. It's a 10 footer, so it's best for rivers.  It could probably survive the lake, too (though not as well as dad's).  I'm not sure how I'm going to transport it yet, but dad and River Jim both have some ideas.  Got to go kayaking yesterday, and we saw a heron, some turtles, and some vultures.  The river was up so it only took an hour and a half to float a section of the river that usually takes 3-4 hours to float.

Mason update: He is 8 1/2 months old, and crawling all over the place.  He can pull up to standing, and we are thinking he may end up being an early walker. Plus, we are pretty sure he's a wizard.

Mykl and I got to see SPAMALOT on Friday night.  Dad wanted to make sure that I told Joey so he could be jealous.  It was hilarious!  A lot like the Holy Grail, but with added scenes (and songs)

Wis-dumb Teeth

I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed on Thursday at 9:30. I have a ride, but if anyone wants to pick me up so I can live on a couch in Springfield, and then drive me back on Sunday or Monday, I wouldn't put up a fight. I don't know if I need someone to take care of me, but I'm pretty tough so I should be fine.

No Trust

I went to back up my I-Tunes library the other day and it said it would take three disk to back it all up. It ended up taking four disk. What has the world come to when you can't even trust your I-tunes app to tell you how many disk it will take to back up your stuff.

Big Things to Come

Hey folks! Just wanted to quickly update you on some mighty big plans I have this summer. Some of you may know, I am starting a freelance music composition/editing business. I will still be a band director, so this will just be a business on the side -- not really for extra money, but because it is something I gotta do. Besides writing music, the first things I need to do is get some publicity going: some presence in these crazy tubes we call the webternet. I plan on starting a facebook page, YouTube channel, fixing up my SoundClound page and, best of all, Kelly is going to make a website! Until all that happens, I got the ball rolling by starting a BLARG.

UPDATED: Riley's Drumline Shows

Riley's drumline has several performances in the next few weeks if anyone is interested in seeing this year's show, "Focal Point." It's pretty awesome, I gotta say. Here are the dates and locations:

• Saturday, March 5, at Kickapoo High School – the Nixa drumline plays at 12:45
  
  
• Saturday, March 12, at Nixa High School – the Nixa drumline plays at 1:03
  
  
• Saturday, March 26, at Ozark High School – Prelims performance at 2:30, Finals performance probably around 8ish
  

The final performance on the 26th is Championships, but the admission price is about double the cost of the other shows, so keep that in mind. Give Riley a call if you need more information. He's just really busy these days so I thought I would post this for him. Hope to see you there!

Well it is official. Our little family here in Ohio is growing by leaps and bounds. Janice announced she was pregnant with #3 a while ago and then today she dropped a bombshell on us all.

JANICE IS HAVING TWINS!!!!!

We know for sure that one is a boy. He was rather proud of his stuff. He was blocking his little brother or sister but the doctor thinks that they might be identical. We will know more about that when she goes to another doctor.

Now, we may have to give her a shower of some kind since she now needs two of everything. Wow I will be an Auntie times 6!!!!!
